Andrew Wasylyk and Tommy Perman

Scottish composers Andrew Wasylyk and Tommy Perman have collaborated on audio-visual projects for years, including record releases, films, and sound installations. Wasylyk’s cinematic compositions have been nominated for the SAY Award on four occasions and awarded BBC Radio 6Music’s Gideon Coe’s Album of the Year. He’s collaborated with former National Poet for Scotland, Liz Lochhead, and written soundtracks for Radio 4. Perman’s music and DJing have taken around the world, with numerous record releases in his own name and with experimental group/arts collective FOUND. ‘Ash Grey And The Gull Glides On’, is their first collaborative album.

'Ash Grey And The Gull Glides On' is the pair’s first collaborative album as a duo. The record's rooted in Perman's ambient-acid-house grooves and multi-textural percussion built from sampling knocks, clangs and creaks of Wasylyk’s upright piano. These are woven through a palette of drum machines, rolling transcendental piano motifs, fluttering synthesisers, saxophones swells and hymnal choral vocals. The album was recorded in Andrew’s studio in Dundee and Tommy’s family home in Kinross. The pair play the majority of the instruments on the record, with special guest contributions from Pete Harvey (strings), Tommy’s two children (vocals) and Aidan Moffat (vocals).
