Michael McGovern

Glasgow-born singer-songwriter Michael McGovern blends poetic lyricism with folk roots. His new album Thin White Road marks a confident step forward, expanding on his folk roots with full-band arrangements, layered harmonies, and touches of saxophone and strings. The breakout single ‘Evelyn‘ went viral in 2025, sparking a wave of online covers, cementing him as a compelling new contemporary folk voice.

Michael has since sold out tours in the UK and Ireland, recently culminating in an unforgettable night at Glasgow’s Oran Mor, backed up with a full band playing the album in its entirety.

Thin White Road

Thin White Road felt like a moment of my life captured in time. It was a culmination of about 4 years of songwriting, in a 40 minute album. Numerous trips up and down to the Isle of Lewis. I’d sit in the living room of my great friend Scott C. Park, looking out at a gloomy Hebridean winter scene, trying to conjure up some magic.

When we eventually came to record it, at Black Bay Studio, it was midwinter. The sun was setting at 2pm and snow drifts blocked the only road out. What else to do but make a record!
